Videographer
“The videographer profession emerged around 2008, following the release of the Canon EOS 5D Mark II on the market.”
Elia Cristofoli
the Videographer
For 'low-budget' videos, as they are commonly referred to, and especially for ongoing collaboration contracts – such as serial videos for social media – I operate as a videomaker, ensuring compliance with existing contracts and fair competition.
Below are some works carried out as a videomaker, some created with a basic (so to speak) iPhone, but always approached with an understanding of directing; others with professional DSLRs or mirrorless cameras, depending on the intended use. Needless to say, each video also has its own vertical version, tailored for social platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
Equipment
My equipment is constantly being updated, and when it comes to videomaking, I don't need to rent any gear.
Canon EOS R5-C
The first true hybrid camera from Canon, capable of seamlessly transitioning from a professional still camera to a digital cinema camera in the blink of an eye. It is Netflix certified, which, though perhaps inconsequential, signifies that it is a camera capable of capturing stunning images. Of course, knowing how to use it is key...
iPhone 15 Pro Max
Videography also means understanding when to use what. Sometimes a cinema camera is needed, while other times, just an iPhone will do. Not even the Pro version, to be honest. Especially because the Pro part of the iPhone is mainly about the ProRes format in videos (which looks terrible on an iPhone) and the RAW format in photos (debatable).
Zhiyun Crane
Ergonomic and flexible camera stabilizer capable of withstanding jerks and substantial weight. Exposure, focus, and zoom can be controlled directly from the handles, for breathtaking vertigo effects...
DJI Mavic Series
Well, they don't need introductions. They are the top of the line consumer cinema drones.
DJI Avata
Latest generation FPV drone (first-person view, with dedicated goggles), always DJI. Breathtaking 4K video footage. It can delve into the darkest intricacies of life. If needed, to enhance the quality of shots, you can attach a GoPro or an Insta360.
AstrHori 28mm F13 2X Macro Probe Lens
It's a macro probe lens capable of getting into every nook and cranny, mimicking the perspective of an ant. In the sense that you feel like Ant-Man scurrying among the vegetables, or inside a glass, or among a cat's fur... Very fun, but also very tricky.
Shoulder Rig Smallrig
This is the ABC of videography, definitely my favorite setup because shoulder shots have that cinematic flavor, without too much fuss, and well, they rock!"
Neewer Slider 100 cm
The slider is one of the most used tools in video, it's a rail that smoothly slides the shot. Ideal for product or environmental videos. Neewer is not exactly a pro brand. Not yet, at least, because with its latest products, it's making giant strides, and among them, I include this little electronic gem.
Benro Video Monopod
Benro is a sturdy and expensive brand. Its equipment is robust and secure, like this monopod, ideal for dynamic shots where there's no time to waste...
Smallrig Treppiede
It may not be a Cartoni tripod, but it's a Smallrig, which is still a guarantee. And it costs half as much as a Manfrotto, while being worth twice as much! Perfectly stable shots and very smooth panoramas.
DJI Mic
Compact, lightweight, and powerful wireless microphone system that delivers exceptional sound quality up to 250 meters away. I copied and pasted the description directly from the DJI website because there is nothing else to add. The best!
BOYA Lavalier
Yes, I know, audio is usually done with Sennheiser or RØDE, but I'm not a sound engineer, so I manage with these wireless microphones that do their job well. And how could I resist such an inviting name?
Sennheiser MKE 200
It's a small ambient microphone, compact and lightweight (lightness is everything in our profession), ideal for clean audio recordings.
Apple Macbook Pro
I've been using Mac exclusively since I was 12. And yes, it's a bit of an obsession.
DaVinci Resolve Studio
After years of love-hate, I finally parted ways with Adobe Premiere Pro, dedicating heart and soul to DaVinci Resolve Studio, which represents the new generation of video editing software.
